Christmas puppets

Our puppet project is well underway! Each child has now designed their Christmas puppet and are in the process  of making them....some have brought in bits and bobs from home - Sydney has brough in some of her dog's hair  ready for her Arthur Christmas elf puppet.....!!!
We all loved the trip to Bethel Baptist Church, Pontyclun. We enjoyed the puppets, cooking mince pies, Christmas craft, stories and puzzles. The children sang well at the end - our hosts commented at the quality of the singing. We are all working hard  preparing for the infant carol service - learning our lines and singing our hearts out!

Victorian Day!

What a great day! Diolch yn fawr to all for entering into the spirit  of the day. The children were excellent - we all had a fun day and learnt so much. The first part of the day was very focused, we had lessons as Victorian children  with rows of desks facing the front. We were all in role - and had a visit from an inspector and  the local gentry. Our snack was bread and cheese. In the afternoon we all joined in activities of our choice, planned by the children - indoors we made Welsh cakes, peg dolls, cup and balls, observational drawings, role play and outdoors played marbles, skipping. clapping games, hoop bowling and the favourite - duck, duck goose. A very memorable day indeed! Thank you parents for providing the costumes! Have a great half term!
Hwyl!

We must all complete  our autumn art and poems too!

Well done all of you for being so enthusiastic about our Voices for Ty Hafan event. Also we discovered we have a wonderful voice in our class - Miah Jenkins - well done Miah for singing in front of the whole school! She was awarded seren yr wythnos for being so brave. Diolch yn fawr Mrs Parfitt for helping us to type out our jokes. We all know now how to change the font.....so exciting...!

St Fagans visit

We had a great time on Monday in St Fagans, especially in Ysgol Maestir. We were able to see at first hand all we had spotted in photographs and books. We spotted all sorts- slates, inkwells, coal fire, back straightener, Bible, cane and the Welsh Not. We also played on the yard with skipping ropes and cup and balls. Diolch yn fawr iawn to all our helpers for coming with us.

What a great week!

We've been busy busy busy in class 8 - each afternoon a different group went to do Forest School activities with the Support staff team.  each group learnt the "sticky elbows" trick then went and built a giant bird's nest . They then pretended to be birds and sat in the nest! We had herons, falcons, woodpeckers and seagulls! Diolch yn fawr goes to the forest school team for taking us. We can't wait for our turn to come around again!
Don't forget our trip to St Fagans on Monday - coat with a hood and a packed lunch please! We are really excited to go to the old school and have thought of a million questions to ask!
Da iawn Jared Dickson - our first Seren yr Wythnos winner for fabulous maths work. We have enjoyed meeting some new characters in our maths lessons this week - the Pobble who has no toes (he counts in ones) and Bisky Bat (counts in tens) and Midgard the dragon (helps us organise ourselves when we are counting a large amount) . I believe it's the Blue Baboon next week - just in time for our blue investigation table . I hope you have been thinking about an unusual item you can bring in....
Have a lovely weekend,

Gardening and fair tests!

We have been planting peas and beans in our classroom - and were excited when they were ready to be planted out in the golden garden before the holidays....I wonder how tall they will be when we return?
We were curious to find out if seeds would grow without water- we didn't think so, but they did!  Another group tried to see if seeds would grow without soil- and found that cotton wool did just as well! Of course we made sure it was a fair test and only changed one thing each time!

Space show

We all had a great time on Thursday when we were visited by Mark and Jon . They presented lots of information about space and the planets in a fun way! We loved the raps!
We continue to study the weather - and in music we have been composing storm music with Miss Heulin. We also went outdoors to see how we could make music in the outside environment - and came up with some innovative ideas - drumming on an upside down plant pot, tapping the metal fence, jumping on the gravel.....
Da iawn Keira-Paige Price for winning seren yr wythnos last week - and Ffion Harris this week! Lots of you are trying very hard at everything at the moment - and so enthusiastic!
